Seville, or in Spanish Sevilla, is a remarkable city and one which is growing to be a very popular Spanish city break destination. The attractions of the city are numerous and include the stunning architecture, and rich cultural heritage which is authentically Spanish. Sevilla is in the region of Andalusia and no other part of Spain remains as faithful to its abundance of classic cultural elements. To think of Sevilla Spain hotels and a city break or holiday is to immerse yourself in an environment which has defined Spain to much of the world.
Andalusia is comprised of the provinces of Grenada, Almeria, Malaga, Cadiz, Cordoba, Jaen, Huelva, and its beating heart, Sevilla. All have become the stuff of legend and contributed greatly, not only to Spanish commerce and industry, but to its art, literature, culture, life, and historic importance. While many think of Spain in terms of the outstanding and enduringly popular beach resorts such as Costa Brava and Costa Blanca, those who search for the real Spain come to Sevilla.
The history of Sevilla is the history of Spain, with Romans, Moors and western influences combining to create Spanish life and culture. Where Sevilla differs is in the indelible mark each has left on the city. The Roman remains of the aquaduct in the city and of the nearby well preserved Roman city of Italica are a testament to how well the city was regarded during the Roman empire. Much of modern Seville must be attributed to the skills, culture and art of the Moors however and this is evident in the Moorish sights and architecture found throughout Sevilla.
Two Moorish developments stand out more than most in the city and these are the incredible city Cathedral and the Alcazar palace which sits opposite. The Cathedral was built on the site of the original 9th century mosque and incorporated many of the original pillars and most notable the minaret which was transformed into the Cathedral bell tower. A mediaeval Gothic masterpiece, the Cathedral is one of the largest in the world and certainly one of the world's greatest architectural creations. The Alcazar Palace retains much of the original Moorish palace design and appeal and is complemented by wonderful gardens which display all the historical influences of the city.
Everywhere you look in Sevilla you see incredible examples of architecture, and in addition to the Cathedral and the Alcazar, other popular visitor attractions include the Seville University which is housed in a baroque styled former tobacco factory, which dates from the 18th century. The Town Hall dates from the 16th century and the Moorish watchtower, Torre del Oro is also a popular landmark.
While Seville effortlessly displays all its wonderful history, the city is not defined by the bygone ages and influences of others but by the modern business, commerce, and finance of the largest city and capital of the South of Spain. Recent development and investment in the infrastructure of the city arose from hosting the Universal Exposition of Seville in 1992, and has seen the city enhanced with express train services to and from Madrid and also an international airport. Sevilla has also become a major Spanish location for international conferences and conventions, often held in the Congress Palace, a venue specially created for the purpose.
Business is important in Seville and many visitors to the city have work to do during their time here. When people have business to conduct in Sevilla, Spain, hotels capable of offering the best business environments, features and services become a popular choice of accommodation. There is certainly plenty to choose from since there are many business oriented hotels in the city and they have a wealth of facilities such as 24 hour business centers, complete with copying, fax, and printing equipment, work stations with internet access, and often board and meeting rooms too.
Rooms and suites within the business hotels of Sevilla may also have additional facilities for business which may include work desks, internet access and dual-line telephones. Some hotels have executive floors which incorporate exclusive access to a lounge and concierge services which allow for express check-in and check-out and a range of other services tailored for corporate travelers.
In Seville for pleasure, business or both, any visitor cannot fail to be charmed by the city and the rich cultural delights on offer. Religious and cultural festivals are well observed and appreciated and there are festivals and fairs in which the vibrant culture, music, art and dance of the region is celebrated. Flamenco is particularly popular in Sevilla and there are notable local versions of Spain's most famous dance.
If it is difficult not to be charmed by the lively local cultural elements of the city it is impossible not to be delighted at Seville’s culinary expertise. The range and quality of available ingredients and produce is incredible in Andalusia and all of it is used to great effect in the many superb Sevilla restaurants. From Cadiz comes the seafood, from Jerez, the sherry, and from Jaen the olive oil, but from Sevilla comes the history of gastronomic excellence and skills to blend the freshest local ingredients to create an unforgettable Sevilla dining experience.
